Handmade Gift Bag Party Favors

Hi crafty friends! I'm back on the blog today to share with you how to create these super cute handmade gift boxes!

I used the 'Birthday! Simple Set' from Simple Stories to create these gift bag style party favors. They're perfect for birthdays, but you can easily adapt them to any holiday or event (just imagine how cute these would be at Christmas time!). 

To create these gift bags, I used a sheet of paper the measured 5.5 x 6 inches. I scored this paper on the 5.5 inch side at 1.25 inches on both ends. On the 6 inch side, I scored at 2 3/8 inch on both ends. 

I folded and creased along all of these score lines. Next, I cut along the sides of the two squares in the middle of the template. This will create the tab that will be used to adhere the bag together. To make the next step easier, I recommend cutting a small sliver off of both sides of these squares by cutting at a diagonal from the outside edge in. 

To adhere the bag together, fold the two squares inwards, and add glue or any adhesive of your choice to the back of each. Then, carefully, line these tabs up with the back side panels and adhere them down one at a time. 

Next, add adhesive to the inner side of the front side panels and then secure them down on top of the back ones that were just adhered to the square tabs.

If you'd like to add straps to this box, use two strips of paper that measure 1/2 inch x 6 inches. 

Adhere the back of one end of a strip to one side of the front of the box. Then, adhere the back of the other end to the other side of the box. You'll likely notice that the strap bends down and inwards--this is what you want to happen.

Repeat this step on the back of the bag.

The final steps are to embellish the bags and stuff them full of goodies & treats! I like to add colorful crinkle paper to mine for more fun.
